Nick Law – EVP Chief Creative Officer of RGA on the Buzz Bubble Part 1

February 18, 2011

Nick Law Chief Creative Officer of RGA for the last 10 years takes some time to sit with Host Kevin Kelly on the sound stage of RGA in New York City. Nick talks about the rich RGA history from creating fantastic special effects in movies like Alien and Superman in the 70's and 80's, to making award winning web sites in the 90's and early 2000's, to the fully integrated digital agency of the decade that they are today. Nick talks about strategy behind digital platforms, and how campaigns are the fuel behind a platform, and the 2 should not exist alone. We review some of the greatest advertising platforms like infamous RGA Nike Plus platform, and the interactive outdoor campaign in times square New York for the Verizon Droid.

And we answer that age old question, "Does it take more than staying up all night eating pop-tarts to make a great web site?".

We discuss this and much more... Tune in now and sign up for the audio podcast, of click to watch right now.

Loved it. Kevin is maturing in his interview/lead in role and BigBuzz seems to be tracking similar to RGA. Nick Law says he hires for depth but there is an art to leadership to get all the players working on the same track… some confusion as to hierarchical set up or distributed communal intelligence. Communal intelligence can work, but watch out for primadonnas else can get a committee mentality, but I guess the chief steps in—he being the guy with the vision. Yet a team is different..it has a captain/leader who calls the shots. Three different organizational models.. the blend is tough to get right.
And the glasses! A different look?

      Mike.
      Thanks for the comment.
Nick was SOOooo insightful on the subject of team building and integrated intelligence among teams.
Keep watching to see more of his great insight. Part 2 up in a few days.
The Glasses? Yeah.. Yah know they say getting old sucks, I think it’s far better than the alternative, but my eyes needed some assistance as I “mature”. 😉
      Thanks again for watching.

…Also wrote it on youtube, but anyways: Why is there music running in the background!?! – it’s annoyingly distracting, and Nick is interesting enough – by far – not to need it. Also, feels kinda tacky… Just sayin’

Other than that, super interesting interview

    Daniel,

Thanks so much for the feedback. Yeah you are right Nick is totally engaging and doesn’t need ANYTHING enhancements when he is speaking. Background music track came along late in season 1 and kind of became our “thing”. We will likely pull it back more in upcoming episodes, so thanks for your feedback.
    Keep it coming.
